The secular parish of Stowe by Chartley was formed in April 2000 when Stowe Parish was split into Hixon and Stowe by Chartley. The Parish has 314 electors living in Stowe by Chartley village, Amerton, Chartley, Grindley, Drointon or the outskirts of Gayton, Gratwich, Lower Loxley and Lea Heath.
There are many fine buildings although many have suffered from fire. Chartley hall having been burnt down twice, The Generals Farm House was burnt down when it was used for a cheese factory with flaming cheese running down the drive like lava and, more recently, The Old Thatch has had two serious fires in the last 10 years.
